Should I Date Online?
The biggest challenge to online dating is getting to the "real" person. My experience with online dating has shown me that there are people who know who they are and people who think they know who they are. What does that mean? Every one has to fill out a profile about themselves. This is one of the hardest (in my opinion) part about internet dating. Some people take a lot of time and put a lot of thought into their profile page. Others, unfortunately just put what they think will attract the other person.
We all want to portray the side of us that we think will attract someone special. Some do it for the right reasons while others do it to intentionally deceive. That takes me back to the challenge of getting to the real person. Unfortunately it is easy to hide behind the anonymity that the internet provides. Don't get me wrong I believe in Internet dating. I met my husband on a dating site - we were both listed on several dating sites. But I also met some real players!
How can you date online safely? Easy - spend a lot of time chatting through email, messenger and on the phone. Really get to know the person. If he or she is not interested in answering questions or having in-depth conversations about their interests and likes then its time to move on. Feel comfortable with the person through conversation before you meet in person.
Where is a good place to meet the first time? In a public place. Meet at a cafe, restaurant, pub, anywhere you feel comfortable being able to leave if you feel uncomfortable with the person you are with. Never meet at your house or give the other person your address. Because I lived in a small town, I preferred to meet in the next city or in the case of my husband we met half way between where we each lived.
Do I think people should date online? YES Its a great way to meet lots of people with different interest and personalities.
